Back to School Events in the Steamboat Springs School District

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We are so excited to welcome back all of our students, teachers and staff. Below is a quick snapshot of events to kick off the new year! 

First day of school for 6th and 9th grade: August 19 
First day of school for all students: August 20 

Soda Creek Elementary

Monday, Aug 19:

• Preschool Open House from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
• Kindergarten orientation meetings- families will be contacted with this info individually
• 1:00 -1:30 Optional New Family Meeting with the Principals in the Media Center
• 1:30-2:00 Classroom visits for all 1st through 5th-grade students
• 2:00-3:00 Shaved Ice on the playground for all families!
• 2:00-3:00 Community groups will be set up so you can see what's available in the community for your student

Tuesday, August 20

• First day of school for all students with a new start time of 8:15 am

Thursday, Aug 29:

• Back to School Night
  • 5:00-5:30 pm Kinder, 1st, 2nd
  • 5:45-6:15 pm 3rd- 5th

Strawberry Park Elementary

Monday, August 19:

• Preschool and Kindergarten orientation 
• School supply drop-off from 1:30 - 2:00 pm 
• Ice Cream Social from 2 pm - 3 pm

Tuesday, August 27

• Back to School Night 
  • 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade
  • 5:45 pm - 6:15 pm for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade

Sleeping Giant School

Monday, August 19:

• Preschool and Kindergarten orientation
• 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Popsicle Social and school supply drop-off for all families/all grade levels

Tuesday, August 20

• First day of school for all students with a new start time of 8:05 am

Monday, August 26:

• Open house for all families - 5:30 pm 
• Special event for Spanish-speaking families at 4:30 pm 

Steamboat Springs Middle School

Wednesday, August 21:

• Back to School Open House from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
  • Last names A-L:
    • 5:10-5:35 pm - Meet student’s Core Teams
    • 5:45-6:10 pm: Meet student’s World Language, Encore, Performing Arts and WIN teachers
  • Last names M-Z:
    • 5:10 - 5:35 pm - Meet student’s World Language, Encore, Performing Arts and WIN teachers
    • 5:45 - 6:10 pm - Meet student’s Core Teams
  • 6:10 - 6:30 PM: School and community groups will be set up at the front of the school

Yampa Valley High School

August 19:

• 9 am - 3 pm: Registration & Drop-In Day
  • Students and families are invited to meet staff, pick up schedules, sign release forms, request a locker, and more.

Steamboat Springs High School

August 28:

• Back to School Open House from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
